Comment: This was such a nice ride! I did the ferry and train combo with my 8 year old. I was worried she would get bored, but she loved every minute of it. The ferry driver gave some nice history on the islands and the train tour stopped at some really neat places on the island and gave an excellent overview of what life is like for the people who live there. I really enjoyed the viking church and School House Beach, while my daughter was captivated by the old farm and found the highlight of her time to be feeding the resident goats. The time spent at each stop was a perfect amount. There were “tips appreciated” signs on the train/trolley, and I regretted not having appropriate cash on hand. I wish they had a QR code or @CashApp or Venmo handle posted so I could have left a cashless tip.

Comment: A kind employee at a museum at the top of Door County recommended this privately-owned ferry that travels to and from Washington Island. We had a wonderful time comfortably riding through “Death’s Door” on the 20-minute trips narrated by personable Captain Voight as he pointed out two famous lighthouses and informed us of the history of the area. Departing from Gills Rock, this ferry does not take cars, but transports many passengers’ bicycles. With indoor and outdoor seating, people in the same party with different preferences can all have a good time. This company also operates the Viking Train that provides two-hour narrated tours of Washington Island, and the Yankee Clipper that tours Plum and Pilots Islands. Very enjoyable!

Comment: Cute little gift shop to look at their with more unique items than some of the other shops around door county. We didn’t take a boat ride but it looked like you’d get a lot for the price.

Comment: Have taken the Clipper to Washington Island from Gills Rock over the past 3 years. It’s a much more fun way of getting to the island than on the car ferry. This one is more scenic, with plenty more space for sitting outdoors. Also, the ride is narrated and I’ve never experienced it sold out as the car ferry occasionally happens. All around fun for adults and kids, and you can bring your bicycles on the boat.
