Comment: Albeit a slow ride, it is very convenient to go from Cheung Chau to Central!

Comment: New World First Ferry (or just First Ferry) is a service provider in Hong Kong providing sea bound transportation around Hong Kong including routes to/from outlying islands and popular places such as Cheng Chau, Peng Chau and Mui Wo.
Ferry service is similar to the Star Ferry and can be boarded by way of ferry piers. Entry can be purchased by way of cash payment or with an Octopus Card. Route service schedules are available at the piers or on their website directly.
Recently used First Ferry for a journey between Central Pier 5 and Cheung Chau and found my ferry trips to be just fine. Inside seating areas are standard and of little interest. Sailings went smoothly and were on time. Little more to comment other than finding First Ferry service on this route to be just fine and as expected.

Comment: Today I took the ferry to Cheung Chau. You can buy a seat on the regular ferry for $13. What they don’t tell you is that this doesn’t give access to the outside decks. For that you need a ‘deluxe ticket’ for $22. Unfortunately you can’t buy that on board. So I went back to the ticket booth, having already paid for a regular ticket, and asked to pay the difference between the deluxe ticket and the regular ticket (which I had already paid for). Unluckily, the single unhappiest woman in the work would only bark out ‘You must buy new ticket! No upgrade!’ So after arguing about how silly it was to punish a tourist by essentially making them buy a new ticket just so they could sit outside, I just paid for a brand new ticket. Yes, I’m only out $13 HKD, but still, what a horrible woman. Tread carefully I guess.

Comment: Ferry review for Lantau Island – pier 6. Pier 6 review not available. Below are times from Central and prices. There is a slow ferry (1hr) and fast (30min). Fast has wifi, not sure about slow. Although posted, I couldn’t figure out slow ferry times/sign didn’t make sense to me – I think just a few times a day, but much cheqper. Tai o bus pick is time leaving from Tai o back to ferry pier. Don’t take last bus as it will be full or get to line early.

Comment: I would strongly recommend taking the fast ferry as it is twice faster and has A/C and wifi on board.
