Comment: Overall the Chi-Cheemaun Ferry experience was a good one. I bought tickets online however it’s really only the reservation online and you still have to arrive an hour early in order to go into the terminal to get your tickets. I think they could make the online reservation an online ticket to save passengers from having to line up to get a ticket. I was a walk-on passenger as it was strictly a tourist ride to Manitoulin and back. We were among the first people on the passenger decks of the boat. The decks were clean and provided ample seating including Muskoka chairs, which was nice. I used the washroom early as the boat was leaving as I thought it would be cleaner. It wasn’t. It smelled and there was liquid on the floor around the toilets. As it was the first ferry of the day I suspect it wasn’t cleaned fully from the day before. The ferry left on time and it was a beautiful view as we sailed and the time went quickly. You can see lots of islands and a few lighthouses. I sailed in September so there might be more happening on the boat during July and August. As it was the lounge was empty and quiet. The gift shop was big but not a huge selection although they had many sweatshirts. Not a surprise as it can be cool on the outside decks. But they have ample space indoors including a very nice cafeteria with tables situated around big picture windows. The staff seemed a bit quiet and one staff person just looked the other way when I acknowledged them in the hallway. Not a big problem but a bit odd considering how much they advertise the boat as a tourism destination and not just public transportation. It is worth doing the trip at least once, though. It is still a nice trip.

Comment: It was a great experience. Loading is well-organized, the ferry is clean and well-maintained despite being 50 years old. The food on board is delicious and they have good choice of meals.
It was nice to see that it’s a dog-friendly place and little (and not) friends can join their hooomans.
If you decide to spend time outside, you might want to bring a jacket, can be windy.
Also, note that once left the car, you won’t be able to go there until you arrive, so make sure to take everything you need at once.

Comment: We enjoyed the services and hospitality at Tobermory. It took us about an hour to reach the South Bay location. Although we had some issues with our tickets, their agents called us and resolved the booking, providing excellent customer service. However, the online reservation system isn’t accurate; even when the ferry is empty, it shows as fully booked. We managed to get standby tickets for both sides during the peak season. Despite this, it was worth visiting and a great place to have fun. It added another wonderful memory to our photo bucket.

Comment: This was my first time on such a large ferry and definitely my first time driving onto one. We were at the port in Tobermory at 730 for the 850 crossing. Once we were parked in our lane, we could stop out of the car to stretch our legs, which my pup and I both appreciated.
I was nervous about driving and parking on the vessel, but it was easier than I expected. I had watched a video that showed a lot of cars in what is essentially a parking lot, but that is not where my car ended up. We were essentially in a one lane tunnel.
Once parked. We made our way to the top deck and spent most of our time there, appreciating the fresh air and blue skies and water. Definitely bring something a little warm to wear up there as the wind was pretty constant.
The staff we encountered, from port to ship to port, were all very friendly, and it was an amazing experience. Highly recommend!

Comment: Decided to take the ferry last October on one of my twice yearly drives to Southern Ontario from Manitoba. The drive across Manitoulin island to the terminal was scenic and the ferry was memorable. The ship was large, spacious, clean and plenty of indoor and outdoor deck space to wander. There was a gift shop and a cafeteria to get a decent meal at a reasonable price. Arrive early at the terminal muster area and you can leave the car in the queue at South Baymouth and walk across the street to have a good breakfast while you await the ship’s arrival. Also the ferry price for a car and one person was very reasonable compared to other somewhat similar ferries in size and distance like the Vancouver to Nanaimo route.
