Comment: What a great cental location for the Ferry. It has a little bit of everything, including some great views of the Bay Bridge. I would think this is a great place to grab a snack or coffee before a ferry ride. It’s historic and signature train station vibe is fantastic.
A little history? It was built in 1898 and, by 1955, was mostly turned into office space *gasp*. After the 1989 earthquake, it was finally returned to the landmark it was always meant to be, opening in 2003.

Also, public restrooms, which is always important.

Comment: The Ferry Building stands there against the bay like an old warrior. It is a good building. It is strong. In 1898 they built it for four million dollars, which was real money then, and it has lasted. The tourists come and go. The food vendors sell their things. It is all clean and proper now, but it was not always so.

In the seventies they wanted to tear it down. The men in their offices said a freeway would be better. But the people knew better and they fought for it, and the building stayed. That was good. A city needs its old buildings the way a man needs his memories.

Now you can buy oysters there, and cheese, and wine, and bread that is very good. The farmers come with their vegetables. The vegetables are fresh and clean and cost too much, but people buy them because they are good vegetables and it is a fine thing to shop in an old building by the water.

Sometimes the wind comes hard off the bay. It is a real wind that can break glass and make the whole place shiver. The architects knew about wind. They built it right. But sometimes the wind wins and things break. That is the way of things by the sea.

The police walk through now and then. They keep it clean of trouble. There is not much trouble there. People are too busy eating and shopping and taking pictures to make trouble. But at night, when it is quiet, you can feel how it used to be when the ferries were the only way across the bay.

Some men want to change it now. They talk about development and progress and making it new. But you cannot make a thing new without losing what made it good in the first place. The building knows this. It has stood through earthquake and fire and the long years when no one cared about it. It will stand through this too.

It is a true building. It does its work without trying to be more than it is. The clock tower stands straight and tells true time. The arches hold their shape. The marble floors are worn in the right places from all the feet that have passed over them. These are honest things.

In the evening, when the fog comes in and the tourists have gone, you can sit in the ferry building with a glass of wine and some bread and cheese. You can watch the boats on the bay and the lights coming on in the buildings across the water. It is a good place to be. That is all there is to say about it, and that is enough.

Comment: ♥️Beautiful Experience at the Ferry Building**

The Ferry Building is an iconic spot in San Francisco that offers a lot to enjoy. Located by the water in the Embarcadero neighborhood, it’s a beautiful place to visit, especially if you enjoy local markets and scenic views.

The building itself is full of shops, restaurants, and a great farmer’s market on certain days.

Yesterday, we visited the farmer’s market and had some fresh oysters—absolutely delicious! There’s also a nice variety of snacks and foods to try while sitting by the ocean. Watching the ships go by under the sunny sky made the experience even more special.

Getting there is simple—you can take the MUNI, BART, or even walk from the city center. The area is easy to navigate, and public transport options make it very accessible.

If you’re in San Francisco, I highly recommend visiting the Ferry Building for the views, the food, and the peaceful waterfront!
