Comment: Waited 1h30 to get our passports checked and being able to get out the terminal. At 10pm with young tired children, it was painfully slow. Why do they not open more lanes? Only 2 lanes were open for hundreds of cars to be checked one by one. Infuriating!

Comment: For foot passengers the most useful information – hard to obtain from Brittany Ferries – is that the bus from Caen station is the 12Express. It takes about 35 minutes and departs, not from the Gare Routiere (to your left as you leave the railway station), but from the bus stops in front of the station, over the tram lines and to the right a little. Get off at ‘Ouistreham Port’, it’s obvious, look for the lighthouse! Last bus out on weekdays is 21.10 (in August 2024), earlier at weekends. Fare has to be paid in cash, unless one has the local travel card. I missed the inbound timetable, but there doesn’t seem to be a service connecting with the late evening ferry’s arrival.
The Gare Maritime, nicely retaining this retro appellation, is about 500m walk from the bus stop. There is a Brasserie there, but a better choice would be before making that walk, several places to choose from. Hot food options at the Gare Maritime ran out well before the night sailing boarded. No left luggage facilities are provided, a disappointment, as otherwise Ouistreham would have been a pleasant place to spend the afternoon.
