Comment: Waited about 45 minutes to get on the Ferry. Can see the dolphins swimming, seagulls flying overhead, got to walk around the upper deck, and see the nice view. Takes about 16 minutes to get to the other side. I seen people walking to get on the Ferry and walk off at the end of the trip.

Comment: I took the ferry across from Galveston and I want to answer the one question I got asked a lot: Yes, it is completely free or vehicles and passengers. It is considered part of the Texas highway system so it is funded by road and gas taxes.

The ride over from Galveston took about 20 minutes and I spent them sitting in the driver’s seat of my vehicle. I managed to get a front row spot on the ferry (it’s all luck, no strategy) to watch the crossing. As much as that was nice, I do need to find a car wash to rinse off what will soon be dried salt from the spray.

The ride was smooth, easy and simple. Just follow the directions of the workers, set your brake and look around. Yes, there is cell phone coverage the whole time you’re crossing Bolivar Roads.

There was not much of a wait this morning because I was here during off peak. When the ferry loads, they take medical exemptions first and then permit holders. So it can be a bit during peak hours.

Exiting at Port Bolivar was uncomplicated. When the worker pointed at me, I went. I followed the signs and was on my way. Easy!

Comment: First time going, lots of cars but very quick. The staff was wonderful and helpful. Speedy quick and the workers ran the Dewitt Greer like a well oiled machine. Very cool, recommend trying it at least once. Dolphins popping out of the water alongside the ferry! Seagulls, and pigeons hanging out on the boat. And the pelicans were also cruising alongside and diving down into the water catching fish! Very relaxing and fun.

Comment: I don’t know how they decide what people get on this ferry first but it is definitely not on a first come first served basis. I have been in this line an hour now and all the lines (2) to the right of me are consistently being onboarded first. These are not people in line for medical reasons. The one line breaks into 5 and I fully expect to be in this line for 1.5 maybe 2 hours at this point. I have been here through 4 ferries loaded without me now and only about 4 cars in front of me in my line. Totally unacceptable. Still waiting. Another ferry was loaded with people that were behind us. They are not coning off the lanes or keeping track of which lane was taken last! Train these people to do their jobs! If I weren’t stuck I would leave!

Comment: 1st ever riding was on Sunday afternoon. Boy someone needs to warn tourists how long it can take. 2.5 hrs
▪︎When we finally got on, after the wait. I asked a man (Employee), how long it takes to get to other side. He joking said ” ▪︎It was a 3 hour tour”, sorry I missed the joke but my husband git it, lol. The employee did tell me where the handicap restroom was.
▪︎Front left corner of the ferry, Thank God, because boy this body could not have made it up those stairs, I would have been in trouble.

At least the 2nd time we took it, a day later it was short & sweet.
