Comment: Staff are rude. It’s not “fast” – it takes the same time as the 9 hermanos ferry! The other ferry looked more modern, has free WiFi and fans in the seating area. The holbox express does not have these features, and it gets hot waiting even under the shade.

Comment: Simple, straightforward procedure. Leaves every half hour from 7am until around 9pm. There are ticket desks on both the Chiquila and the Holbox side but we chose to get return tickets which are open to use for around a month.
If you have luggage, you first leave your items with the crew to load on the ferry, and then you proceed to hop on board. The first level has A/C, and you can opt to go on the open-air top deck if you fancy more views. However, please note that if the wind is not in your favour, you’ll be drenched with water which splashes on the ferry and then straight on the top deck, and you’ll arrive at your destination dripping wet. We laughed it off and I was fortunate to have a towel with me which mildly protected me and my backpack which was full of chargers and cables..
*they have a sign that if you sit on the top deck, you must be sitted at all times so it might not be advisable to go there and move if you change your mind, as its wet and slippery.

Comment: Good ferry. Takes 20-25 minutes to Holbox. Costs roundabout 200 Pesos a ticket. Before entering the boat they ask you another 29 Pesos per person ‚environment tax‘. Birds where flying over the boat at the beginning, was nice to see. There is a roofdeck to sit as also space inside. The guys who put the luggage on the boat are ‚rough‘ lets say

Comment: 220 pesos per person for 1 way ticket. Your ticket can be used anytime (here and back).
Before you buy, check the timetables and compare the 2 companies that sell the tickets. The cruise hours change every 30 mins. The price is the same.

Comment: One of 2 ferry companies that sail between Chiquila and Holbox. They have 3 ticket offices in Chiquila: beside the ADO, another a few yards further down the street and one beside the roundabout before the jetty.
At the time of writing they were running services at half-past the hour with 9 Hermanos (the other company) sailing on the hour. They take payment in cash or by card (with a 5% fee).
The crossing takes about 40 minutes depending on sea conditions. They have outdoor seating on the top deck as well as a/c indoor seating amidships.
When returning from Holbox, I’d suggest giving yourself plenty of time to catch any onward travel from Chiquila – our 14:30 sailing left 15 mins late so I suspect it’s the same on the return journey.
