Comment: “Mercado Hidalgo” is a public market located right downtown with a history of more than 70 years. It is very clean, colourful with a display of businesses very typical Mexican groceries like many types of dried chiles and condiments, fresh fruit from the region and other states, meat shops selling meats you can only find in Mexico like menudo, liver, etc. Try also the home made style food like authentic gorditas, enchiladas potosinas, gordas de horno, fruit milk shakes and the delicious flautas, quesadillas, tacos rojos topped with “saltierra” cheese of “La Pasadita”, don’t miss a side of pickled pig skin. Mercado Hidalgo is a great place for photography as it has many unique y details.

Comment: This was a fabulous market. We stumbled upon a charming, spotless Fonda early Sunday morning when everything was closed. They had nice strong cafe de olla and delicious food for a reasonable price. The proprietor Arnold greeted us in English and was an awesome host. We would recommend this place for a quick bite of local food and it will be the first place we visit when we return to San Luis Potosi
