Comment: We visited the Museo de la Ciudad on a Wednesday in the evening. Even when they close at 6 pm we were allowed to go inside at around 5:50 pm. The museo is very small but the staff members there are really nice and welcoming. You can see some information about the city, city wall and the pirates. On top you are able to walk on the wall.

Comment: From someone who comes from Quebec and has lived in Quebec City within the walls of the old city, it is great to see a similar set up in Campeche. Most of the walls have been kept and this section of San Carlos offers a nice view on Campeche from the walls. Not super well maintained but it was free, so hard to complain! It is worth a stop and while the museum is small we learned a lot about Campeche’s history.

Comment: A free museum which exhibits a history of the city of Campeche! It shows some of the main characters in the story of the town and the guide was very helpful. Not everything is in English but you can get an idea of what the place was like. The Spanish came in the 16th century with Francisco de Montejo, and later his son of the same name. There is a little bit of information about the pirates who plagued the town and the reason for the defensive walls. You can also get up on top of the bastion and enjoy views across the town and the sea.

Comment: There is a great little museum here with some signs in English for tourists about the history of the city and fortifications. It wasn’t quite the pirate war everyone imagines!

Comment: A former bastion that has been turned into a small museum. The fee is 20 pesos and it may be well worth it just for the Air Conditioning. The bastion itself is whitewashed and very photogenic.
