Comment: The ferry transport to Gdańsk exceeded expectations. The process was never rushed and well executed. We had a two person cabin with a window that was clean and comfortable. It felt more like a cruise ship than a ferry service. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Would definitely recommend in the future.

Comment: The whole experience was a bit of a mixed bag. The ticket said that you have to complete check-in no later than 90 minutes before departure. Then it said the same for travelling with an electric vehicle. Then it said that you have to complete check-in no later than 30 minutes before departure. Not knowing what to make of it, I arrived at the terminal 2 hours before departure but there was just a long queue of cars which was not moving. They had barely opened the check-in 90 minutes before departure. I was travelling in an electric car, at check-in they gave me a huge “EL” paper to put on the dashboard so that the loaders could see it. Then there was another ~30 minutes of waiting while the semi trucks kept boarding the ferry. Someone came and scanned out boarding passes. I have no idea why this was necessary, since we had to pass the check-in gate. Can anyone sneak in there with a car as a stowaway? Then there was more waiting and in the end they just told me to go – while another two lanes were also somehow going and nobody was organising them.
We got to the upper deck and were waved along but then another person was shocked that we got there with an electric car, had to wait for other cars to load and then I had to reverse back into a place at the stern. The “EL” paper was HUGE yet nobody was looking at it.
The cruise on the Nova Star was quite nice. We had the Owner’s cabin, it was spacious enough. The shower was very cramped though so we did not use it. The dinner at the restaurant was good, you get a selection of Polish dishes and drinks. However, I would say there was room for improvement for the ship services – at 22:30 the “club” was basically dead, a few people watching the Olympics in the pub and the piano bar without a pianist and without a bartender, with just a few people drinking. They did not seem to offer cocktails which would have been nice in the bar.
Also the shop on board is probably not duty-free. I bought two bottles of alcohol and when I returned home I found out they could be bought for a bit cheaper in a regular store.
We arrived at the port in Gdańsk 30 minutes earlier, were hurried to our car and then waited those 30 minutes for unloading of trucks again.
So in general, it is a good overnight ferry but the boarding could have been organised better.

Comment: The two bed cabins on Nova Star were sold out, but not the four bed ones. The area around the cabins were quite noisy, many families with children. The view was nice from the 600 cabins.

In general the ferry feels clean and modern, however in the cabin showers not so much. The drainage is bad, because of too flat floor, and thus water pools in the bathroom. We used one of the towels to wipe the floor dry and afterwards it was brown/green.

Food is good, but confusing. We prepaid for dinner and breakfast, then you’ll collect a coupon to pay with. It works in both the restaurant and buffet. However in the restaurant it works like a one use gift card and you’ll likely have money left over, better to pay on the ferry in my opinion.
